Join us as we reflect on community, the importance of radio, the nuances of self healing and more.  More of a conversation than an interview, a version of this conversation initially aired on Peggy’s Place on KGUA FM – purely by accident. Peggy’s expected guests did not arrive, and I was there, so we winged it live. I’m sharing it here because our conversation offers a backroom glimpse into what can happen when people listen to each other.

Peggy Jo Berryhill, Mvskoke (muhs-KOH-gee), Bird Clan, is a Native broadcaster and journalist honored for her work in bringing the authentic voice of Native Americans, Indigenous people, women and other minorities into public broadcasting. Affectionately known as “The First Lady of Native Radio”, her body of work spans five decades.
 
Peggy is the founder and President of the Native Media Resource Center, aka NMRC, a nonprofit organization that provides education, collaborative and creative support for Native American, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian organizations and promotes cross-cultural understanding. In 2010, the NMRC constructed and later launched KGUA 88.3 FM, a public radio station in Gualala, California. Berryhill is the current co-owner and operator of the station and still does a live interview show
“Peggy’s Place” twice weekly.
